Since Haşmet is a poet in Hikemi style, when a study is to be conducted about him it is impossible to regard him independent from Nabi, the founder of this tradition. Especially 17th century, when Nâbî lived, is named as Middle Classical Period by literary critics or historians of literature. The primary reason for this is that it includes various poets writing in different styles. Similar to Sebk-i Hindi tradition, Hikemi style puts meaning at the center. Under the light of this information, it is not coincidence that Sebk-I Hindi and Hikemi styles appeared at the same period. Apart from the classical method The appearance of four different styles of poetry named as Sebk-I Hindi, Hikemi and Mahallileşme (localization) in this century, is due to the change and transformation poetry went through in terms of meaning. In this respect, 18th century gave rise to poets that sprang up under the influence of the former century. Though it was not as fertile as the former one, the18th century also contains important poets within itself. In this study, Hikemi poems of Haşmet, who was a follower of Nabi’s way, will be studied. Haşmet’s poems have been analyzed with a meaning oriented method, paraphrased and some explanations have been added to relevant couplets where necessary.
